Eeyou Istchee women coming to Montreal for childbirth may now benefit from the Birthing in a good way pilot project led by the McGill University Health Center Women’s Health Mission.
Following consultations with Indigenous families and organizations, MUHC has undertaken significant changes to support women giving birth feel more at home by:
- having up to four (4) people present for the birth;
- accessing country food in the hospital;
- decorating their rooms with traditional art;
- practising cultural activities, such as smudging, beading, etc.
