Respiratory Therapy – Sleep Clinic
What is it?
The Regional Respiratory Therapy Services’ Regional Sleep Clinic is one of two clinics offered by Regional Respiratory Therapy Services, along with the Pulmonary Functioning Clinic. The Regional Sleep Clinic includes
- Home sleep testing
- Positive airway pressure device (CPAP) set-up
- Patient education and follow-up
Who is it for?
The Sleep Clinic is for people who struggle with sleep issues and/or need assistance with their positive pressure equipment for sleep apnea.
Where is it offered?
The Sleep Clinic will initially launch in Mistissini. It will then be available in Chisasibi, followed by Waskaganish.
What is it like?
The Sleep Clinic will focus will on evaluating your condition and your needs.
If you are at risk for sleep apnea, the respiratory therapist will instruct you how to complete a home sleep apnea test. A respirologist will then analyze the test results. If a positive diagnosis is returned, and you do have sleep apnea, you will receive a prescription and personalized sleep therapy equipment recommendation(s). You may also need to go to Val d’Or for a visit with the respirologist.
You will then follow up at the Regional Sleep Clinic for education and sleep coaching that will help you to get used to sleep therapy.
How long does it last?
Each sleep clinic visit will last no more than one hour. If more time is required, one or two-hour appointments can be scheduled as needed.
How can I get this service?
You must be referred to the Sleep Clinic by a physician, so you should talk to your doctor or nurse if you have concerns about sleep issues, breathing difficulties and/or medications.
