Returning home from an evacuation: Covering financial losses from damaged goods
There are steps you can to cover financial losses from damaged goods, whether you are insured or not.

Three things you can do
-
Photograph or videotape the damage as much possible.
-
Do not throw away any damaged goods (except food) until after the inventory is made by the insurance assessor.
-
If you have to buy new items right away to replace what was damaged, keep the receipts and a list of what you bought
If you are insured
- Contact your insurance company/ broker as soon as possible.
- Try to create an inventory of household items, both inside and outside the buildings, which have been damaged by fire.
If you are not insured
Contact your community PSO.
Some financial support to compensate for certain losses will be available to community members from their Cree Nation Council and Indigenous Services Canada to compensate for some losses.
