Obstetrics and Gynecology

What is it?

Obstetricians and gynecologists are doctors who treat patients for gynaecological problems and who follow pregnant women during their pregnancy, whether it be routine or high-risk.

Who is it for?

These services are for all women requiring a specialist consultation for a non-surgical opinion concerning gynecological or obstetric issues.

Where is it offered?

Obstetrics and gynecological services are available in Chisasibi and Mistissini. If you require treatment beyond what is offered in Eeyou Istchee, you can be treated in Chibougamau, Val d’Or or Montreal.

What is it like?

You will meet with one of the obstetics or gynecology specialists who will ask you some questions, examine you (this may include a gynecological exam) and offer you options for treatment, if appropriate.

If you need surgery, it will be done in either Chibougamau, Val d’Or or Montreal. Additional appointments may be necessary before booking your surgery.

How long does it last?

Most meetings with your obstetrics/gynecology specialist take 15-30 minutes.

How can I get this service?

Get a reference from your family doctor if you need to consult with an obstetrician/gynecologist.

Where can I learn more?

You can find out more about these services from your nurse or family doctor at your local CMC.
