X-Ray/Imaging Services

This service is available for anyone who has a prescription for medical imaging from a doctor.

What is it?

The Chisasibi Hospital’s Medical Imaging Department offers x-ray radiography and obstetrical ultrasound services for both in-patients and out-patients. X-rays are like photographs of the body’s internal structures, while ultrasound images show movement.

Who is it for?

This service is available for anyone who has a prescription for medical imaging from a doctor.

Where is it offered?

The medical imaging department is based in the Chisasibi Regional Hospital.

What is it like?

When you are in the imaging department, a technologist will first prepare you for the process and then take images following the doctor’s instructions. These procedures are entirely painless.

For x-rays, you will put on a protective apron and the technologist will help position you on the bed before the x-ray machine. The technologist will then take the x-rays.

For obstetrical ultrasounds, the technician will prepare you by putting a gel on the area to be imaged – typically, your belly – and will take the images by moving a sensor over that area.

How long does it take?

How long the imaging takes will depend on the process being used. Simple x-rays can take just a few minutes, while ultrasound imaging can take up to an hour.

How can I get this service?

Your doctor will give you a prescription for x-rays or ultrasound if your situation requires it.

Where can I learn more?

For more information, talk to your doctor or the imaging technologist.
