Empowering Eeyou-Eenou: Career Fair in Mistissini Showcases Opportunities
Over 300 people attended the 2024 Career Fair at Mistissini Voyageur Memorial High School on November 13, a successful event organized by the Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay (CBHSSJB).
The fair was designed as an interactive event for students, where they had the opportunity to meet with CBHSSJB staff, explore tools and equipment used by the organization, and learn about available job opportunities.
In addition to offering participants the chance to explore various career paths within CBHSSJB, one of the region's leading employers, the event showcased CBHSSJB’s commitment to Cree culture and its dedication to delivering services that honor the values and traditions of the Eeyou-Eenou.
With more than 60 staff members from CBHSSJB, representing more than 18 different departments and healthcare professionals, support staff, technicians, managers, doctors etc., along with education representatives from the Cree School Board, adult, and higher learning. The students were able to connect with those shaping the future of health and social services in the region.
Executive Director of CBHSSJB, Daniel St-Amour, and Deputy Chief of Mistissini Cree Nation, John S. Matoush, attended the event, showing their support for the Career Fair and the students eager to explore new opportunities. Their presence highlighted the importance of empowering youth and fostering regional growth, aligning with CBHSSJB’s ongoing commitment to the well-being of the Eeyou-Eenou. M. St-Amour reminded the young attendees that they are the future of CBHSSJB, reinforcing the organization's dedication to their success.
The event also offered valuable information on educational programs, ensuring participants were aware of opportunities for professional growth and training. As part of its ongoing efforts to ensure access to high-quality care for all Eeyou-Eenou, CBHSSJB is dedicated to providing careers that promote health and wellbeing, not just in healthcare settings but across all sectors of the organization.
Looking ahead, CBHSSJB plans to make the Career Fair a regular event, and rotating locations across communities.
This initiative will continue to create pathways for employment and personal growth, empowering individuals to contribute to the ongoing development of their communities.
