Re-Entry Vaccination Program

March 9, 2021
Summary

The Cree Board of Health and Social Services is offering a Re-Entry Vaccination Program for some Cree beneficiaries currently living outside Eeyou Istchee, in the province of Quebec.

Content

People eligible for this program will be able to request vaccination in the region where they currently live. The goal is to provide vaccination as a measure of protection for people before they return to Eeyou Istchee’s communities.

Please note that requests for vaccination outside Eeyou Istchee may take more time to process now that mass vaccination campaigns are underway in the South.

The Cree Board of Health and Public Health Department recommend people consider waiting to get vaccinated when they return to Eeyou Istchee, as an alternative option.

Who is eligible for the Re-Entry Vaccination Program

  • Post-secondary students, CSB employees and their dependents in Gatineau and Montreal.

  • Wiichihiituwin long-term patients and their escorts at Espresso Hotel in Montreal.

  • All other Cree beneficiaries who plan to return to Eeyou Istchee this spring.

How the program works

Post-Secondary Students, Cree School Board staff, and dependents in Gatineau and Montreal

  • The Cree School Board has provided Public Health with a list of people in this category.

In Gatineau:

  • People were contacted about special vaccination clinics at the Palais des Congres. Many were vaccinated on March 18 and 19.

  • There will be other dates for vaccination at the Palais des Congres later this spring (late April – May).

  • People will receive a phone call from Gatineau (Region 7) health authorities to arrange an appointment.

In Montreal:

  • The Cree School Board has provided Public Health with a list of people in this category.
  • People will receive a phone call from Montreal (Region 6) health authorities to arrange an appointment.

Please note that it may take more time to arrange these appointments, now that mass vaccination is underway in the south. People should consider waiting until they return to Eeyou Istchee to get vaccinated as an option.

Wiichihiituwin long-term patients and their escorts at Espresso Hotel in Montreal (Region 6)

  • CBHSSJB has a service agreement with Montreal Public Health to vaccinate long-term patients and their escorts. People in this category will be vaccinated in a health care establishment outside Espresso.

Cree beneficiaries (residing anywhere in Quebec) who wish to be vaccinated

If you plan to travel to Eeyou Istchee this spring, and want to request vaccination before you return, write to (18TCR.ReentryVaccine@ssss.gouv.qc.ca) and provide the following details:

  • Your name and names of any dependents 18 and older who want to get vaccinated

  • A current residential address

  • Cell phone number

  • The expected date for travel back to Eeyou Istchee.

Once email requests are received, CBHSSJB Public Health will follow up with details about where and when people can get vaccinated.  People may also receive a follow-up phone call.

With this option, people will receive the vaccine offered at their regional vaccination sites, which may not be the Moderna vaccine.

Community members may be offered an appointment at a Friendship Centre. Details about this option will be announced at a later time.
