The CBHSSJB is proud to announce the nomination of Nancy Shecapio-Blacksmith to the position of Director of Professional Services and Quality Assurance (DPSQA) - Health. She joins the senior management team of Richard Shecapio, Assistant Executive Director for Miyupimaatisiiun.

The DPSQA - Health is a key position that includes overseeing nursing services.

A nurse from the Cree Nation of Ouje-Bougoumou, Nancy Shecapio-Blacksmith has spent most of her career since 2010 in clinical and management roles with the CBHSSJB. Most recently, she served as Assistant Commissioner of Quality of Services and Complaints since 2018. She is a former Director of Operations for the Cree Nation of Ouje-Bougoumou and also worked for Air Creebec as an in-flight nurse in 2016-2017.

A member of the Quebec Order of Nurses, Nancy Shecapio-Blacksmith holds a DEC in Social Science from Dawson College and a DEC in Nursing from the Centre d’Etudes Collégiales à Chibougamau. While working full-time, she has been studying to obtain a Bachelor of Nursing degree from McGill University. She is expected to graduate from this program in May, 2021.

Starting in the summer of 2021, Nancy Shecapio-Blacksmith will also be pursuing a certificate in healthcare management from McGill through the Cree Succession Leadership Framework of the CBHSSJB.

Nancy Shecapio-Blacksmith is trilingual (Cree, English, French) and has a strong knowledge of Cree culture and traditions. She is married to Gaston Cooper, and the couple have three children who are currently pursuing their post-secondary studies.

Nancy Shecapio-Blacksmith will begin her new functions on May 17, 2021.
