This Pharmacy Appreciation Month, we are proud to highlight two valued members of the Pharmacy team: Melba Neacappo (left) and Shania Moar (right). Melba has been with the CBHSSJB for 20 years, while Shania will celebrate her first work anniversary at the end of the month.
Melba works as a Senior Pharmacy Technical Assistant. With two decades of experience, she has become a trusted reference for her less experienced peers. Her responsibilities include prescription entry and medication orders for several communities. She also contributes to a new pilot project supporting dispensary communities through regional tele-pharmacy.
Shania describes her first year as a pharmacy technical assistant as a year of learning and rapid growth, gaining the knowledge and confidence that come with providing excellent pharmacy services. “It’s not just sticking labels or counting pills. There are steps for everything,” she says, and she has worked hard to refine these steps over the past year.
Both Melba and Shania take pride in their work, whether they are welcoming new pharmacists, introducing them to the territory and sharing cultural knowledge, supporting clients with accurate information and problem solving, or providing general support to the team.
They say teamwork, dedication and fun are at the heart of the pharmacy environment. With their colleagues, they form a team that cares deeply about its role and works together to ensure patients receive high-quality care on their journey to Miyupimaatisiiun.
Their career paths in pharmacy may not have been planned, but both are grateful they did. “I accepted the position and realized I enjoyed the variety of the work,” Melba says. “I especially enjoyed perfecting my skills during the Pharmacy Technical Assistant Training.”
Outside of work, Melba enjoys quilting and creating traditional items such as mittens and slippers. Shania describes herself as a loving and devoted mother to her children.
The CBHSSJB is proud to count on Melba Neacappo and Shania Moar, two Cree women who bring skill, dedication and passion to pharmacy work in the service of Eeyou Istchee.
