DID YOU KNOW? Vision is an important tool for a child’s success at school. 80% of learning happens visually at this age.

The À L’École de la Vue program organizes vision screenings in schools, conducted by optometrists, for all children in 4- and 5-year-old kindergarten, across the province of Quebec. During its visit in Eeyou Istchee, the À L’École de la Vue program also offers complete eye exams conducted by optometrists.

The program’s mandate is to:

  • organize vision screenings in schools, carried out by optometrists, for all children in 4- and 5-year-old kindergarten, including schools located in remote regions;
  • develop awareness programs for parents of children aged 3 to 5-years-old to underline the importance of a comprehensive eye exam before starting kindergarten.

This initiative of the Government of Quebec and the Eye Disease Foundation is a prevention program for eye health that aims to detect vision problems early, to ensure that children have the best chance for success when they start school.
