Summer is upon us in Eeyou Istchee, and what better way to embrace it than to get outside and get moving!
Each summer, CBHSSJB launches the Summer Active campaign, partnering with communities to host fun challenges and events. On behalf of Summer Active, we would like to introduce Physical Activity Month and the 100 Mile Walking Challenge.
These community-oriented physical activity projects encourage people to enjoy a variety of physical activities together, especially with their families, friends, and coworkers.
Communities will be hosting various physical activity events during the month of July, like running events, community walks, physical activity classes, themed days, and more!
If you want to get a head start, get moving by:
- Walking to work
- Taking walks out on the land
- “No car” days
- Canoeing, fishing
- Yardwork, gardening
- Walking on community paths
- Playing sports with your kids
- Trying a new sport
- …so many options to stay healthy!
The 100 Mile Walking Challenge is currently underway! From June 21 to September 3, 2021, register with your PCCRs (CHRs) to receive a logbook where you can record your walks and track your progress. Your community may celebrate with banquets, draws, awards or prizes.
Tune in to regional radio to learn about the importance of staying active, which will include stories from people who are on their own journeys to better health through physical activity.
