FROM JULY 20 TO 25, THE CBHSSJB'S COMMITMENT TO THE HEALTH, WELL-BEING, AND DEVELOPMENT OF CREE COMMUNITIES WAS PROUDLY REFLECTED THROUGH ITS SUPPORT OF THE EEYOU ISTCHEE SUMMER GAMES (EISG).
By supporting this event, the CBHSSJB invests in prevention, wellness, and a community-driven initiative that helps approximately 600 young athletes thrive.
It also provides a valuable opportunity to strengthen connections with community members and demonstrate the CBHSSJB's ongoing commitment to the health and well-being of current and future generations.
Health Booths
The Eeyou Istchee Summer Games provided an excellent opportunity for the CBHSSJB to connect with youth, families, coaches, and community members.
"Our booths met people as community members, not patients, and invited them to seek health and wellness on their own terms. Sharing that space with Miyupimaatisiiun and Nishîyû made the message stronger: wellness isn't one service; it's a network built together with the people we serve." - Justine Daoust-Lalande, Health Protection Coordinator of Public Health
Located at the new arena, teams from Public Health, Miyupimaatisiiun, and Nishîyû hosted a variety of information booths where visitors could ask questions, learn about health and wellness, and discover the services available to them. Topics included:
- Sexual health education
- Climate change and environmental health
- Youth services and support
- Cultural approaches to healing and wellness
- Psychosocial support
- Addiction awareness and prevention
- Healthy lifestyle promotion.
These booths created a welcoming space for meaningful conversations and encouraged community members to engage directly with CBHSSJB teams and learn more about available programs and services

The Mobile Health Unit (MHU) returned to the EISG to support local healthcare services by helping reduce pressure on the Community Miyupimaatisiiun Centre and the Regional Hospital throughout the event. This deployment in a community setting also helped raise awareness of the project.
“Many community members are still learning about the MHU. Attending events like this provides an important opportunity to increase awareness, highlight available services, and connect people with the support they need.” - Jacqueline Voyageur, Administrative Process Specialist, MHU.
Located beside the Mitchuap Building and operating daily, the MHU offered rapid assessment and treatment for minor injuries and health concerns affecting athletes, volunteers, and spectators.
A traditional teepee located by the tents also provided a dedicated space for psychosocial support, as per all MHU deployments.
COMPETITION. CULTURE. COMMUNITY.
The slogan of the Eeyou Istchee Summer Games couldn’t capture its impact better. Youth athletes made this week so memorable with their determination, teamwork, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm, creating lasting memories, new friendships, and moments of pride both on and off the field.
The CBHSSJB would like to recognize the parents, grandparents, coaches, volunteers, and community members who supported youth every step of the way. Thank you for your time, encouragement, dedication, and belief in the next generation.
Together, we play an essential role in helping young people grow, stay active, build confidence, and reach their full potential. Our support helps create stronger and healthier communities for generations to come.
