February 20 update: 2 new cases reported in Montreal

February 20, 2021
Summary

Two new cases of COVID-19 have been reported by CBHSSJB Public Health

Content

The cases involve two people who travelled to Montreal in January for health care appointments. It is likely they were exposed to the COVID-19 virus during visits to hospital.

  • They were tested for COVID-19 prior to their scheduled return by charter plane to Eeyou Istchee, as required by Wiichihiituwin’s pre-departure screening protocol.
  • They were asymptomatic when they tested positive for the virus.
  • They did not travel back to Eeyou Istchee, and are currently isolating in Montreal under Public Health’s care.
  • Neither person has any known, significant contacts in Eeyou Istchee that relate to these infections.

More details will be available in coming days. CBHSSJB would like to reassure everyone that Wiichihiituwin and Public Health continue to follow strict safety and sanitary protocols at all facilities outside our region, in order to protect clients and escorts who have to travel for necessary health care.

These are the 118th and 119th case reported in Eeyou Istchee (Region 18) since the pandemic was declared in March 2020.
