Emergency drill, Midwifery Services, First Responders and Chisasibi Medical team
Midwives conduct emergency drill to ensure rapid and effective response in Eeyou Istchee
The Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay (CBHSSJB) Midwifery Services recently conducted an emergency evacuation drill, demonstrating its commitment to providing high-quality care and preparedness for urgent situations. The exercise aimed to simulate a real-life emergency scenario, reinforcing the collaboration between the Midwifery Services team, the Medical team (including doctors and nurses) and the First Responders team to ensure the safety and well-being of the mother and the baby.
During the drill, a midwifery team member acted as a woman in labour experiencing complications, requiring a transfer to the hospital. This exercise provided an opportunity for the three teams to rehearse the critical steps of emergency response, from initial assessment to coordinated evacuation. By practicing these procedures, the healthcare teams can continue to improve their ability to manage urgent situations effectively, ensuring that community members receive prompt and well-organized care when needed.
"These drills are essential for us to stay prepared and work efficiently with emergency teams," said Maude Arsenau-Richard, midwife in Chisasibi. "Our goal is to make sure that every mother feels safe and supported throughout her birth experience, knowing that we have a strong system in place to respond quickly if needed."
The Midwifery Services play a crucial role in supporting families throughout their birth journeys. By conducting these exercises, the CBHSSJB reinforces its commitment to the health and safety of the community across Eeyou Istchee. These preparedness efforts ensure that individuals receive timely and effective care in any situation, whether during routine procedures or in emergency scenarios requiring swift intervention.
