Public Health is continuing the investigation and contact tracing efforts. This includes arranging testing and isolation of several close contacts. Further updates will be provided as the investigation proceeds.

We remind everyone in Eeyou Istchee to continue to respect precautionary measures while at home and away in order to protect ourselves and our communities.

VACCINATION IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED AS THE BEST WAY TO PROTECT YOURSELF

We are at the beginning of a fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Quebec. Increasing cases are being driven by the Delta variant which is more contagious and causes more illness, Even so, vaccination is still very effective to protect people against severe illness caused by the Delta variant, and reduces the risk of hospitalization.

If you are not vaccinated, or if you received one dose and have not yet had your second dose, Public Health strongly recommends that you make an appointment to get fully vaccinated as soon as you are able.

PROTECTIVE MEASURES

Public health recommends keeping all current protective measures in place for every person, whether  they are vaccinated or not. Current protective measures include:

  • Wearing a mask indoors in public settings
  • Keeping physical distance of at least 2 metres from people who don’t live with you
  • Handwashing
  • Being cautious and selective about social contact
  • Getting tested after travelling from an at-risk region or attending a large gathering.

We will have more information in the coming days about these recent cases and any changes to at-risk regions or protective measures.
