Summary

The Board of Directors and Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay extend our deepest condolences to the family of a Mistissini Elder who passed away last week.

Content

She passed away on September 8 from complications due to COVID-19.

We share the sadness of losing such a cherished member of the Cree Nation. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and community.

She is the 11th known person from our Cree Nation to pass away from COVID-19.

Because of how COVID-19 cases are reported in Quebec, which is based on the person’s main address of residence, she is considered the 5th resident of Eeyou Istchee to pass away from the disease.

The Wiichihiiwaauwin Helpline is open 24/7 to anyone who wants to call and talk to someone. It is a safe and confidential space to share, with counselling available in the Cree language. Elders and Traditional Healers, as well as professionals are available to listen.
