The CLARA Bus is back: Breast Cancer Screening Comes to our Inland Communities
This November, the CLARA Bus returns inland to Eeyou Istchee, bringing breast cancer screening directly into our local communities. Part of the Québec Breast Cancer Screening Program and supported by the INSPQ in partnership with the Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay, it offers eligible women an easy way to take care of their health close to home.
Women aged 50 to 74 are encouraged to have a mammogram every two years, as early detection greatly improves treatment success. Usually, this would require traveling south, but in Eeyou Istchee, the CLARA Bus has been visiting our communities since 2005. Each tour helps many women access this important health service without the need for long journeys.
Inside the bus, certified technologists perform mammograms using hospital-standard equipment. Our Public Health department helps with the logistics and our local CMCs organize appointments and follow-ups, ensuring each screening is safe, professional, and convenient.
In November 2025, the CLARA Bus will be in:
- Mistissini: November 11–19
- Oujé-Bougoumou: November 20–22
- Waswanipi: November 24–27
Undergoing a screening mammogram is a personal decision, and we encourage you to make an informed choice. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please contact your CMC—early detection can make a significant difference!
Thank you to the CLARA Bus—an essential resource helping women prioritize their health —for once again visiting Eeyou Istchee this fall.
