CBHSSJB Chairperson Bella M. Petawabano joins Red Cross Board of Directors

Bella M. Petawabano, Chairperson of the CBHSSJB Board of Directors, has been appointed to the Board of the Canadian Red Cross Society.

The Canadian Red Cross Society is part of the largest humanitarian network in the world, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Through their collective experience and vision, the Board of Directors contributes to the continuing success of the Canadian Red Cross. All board members serve the Society as volunteers.

The Red Cross is an important partner of the Cree First Nations of Eeyou Istchee, providing support during emergencies in the Cree communities. The CBHSSJB is currently partnering with the Red Cross to study the feasibility of deploying a mobile emergency non-surgical hospital for the Cree Nation of Chisasibi.

Bella Petawabano brings to the Red Cross Board of Directors her unique perspective and 35 years’ experience as an Indigenous leader in the health and social services sector in Canada. At an upcoming Board meeting, Bella Petawabano will give a presentation about cultural safety, joined by former National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations Phil Fontaine and Dr. Darlene Kitty, President of the Council of Physicians, Dentists and Pharmacists of the CBHSSJB.
