MIINIWAACHIHWAAUKIMIKW LAND-BASED HEALING LODGE

A stable, permanent land-based treatment centre for the people of Eeyou Istchee.

Location: near Chisasibi

REGIONAL HEALTH CENTRE - CHISASIBI​

  • Replaces the current Chisasibi Regional Hospital​
  • On the site of current JBES secondary school​
  • General and specialized services for all ​

  • Cost $419,316,000​
  • Projected opening 2026​

 

BIRTHING HOMES

A home-like, culturally safe place to give birth​

One in each regional pole:​

  • Chisasibi​
  • Mistissini​
  • Waskaganish​
     
  • Midwifery services to be offered in all communities by 2023​
  • Temporary Birthing Home in Chisasibi is nearing completion, already in use by Midwifery Department​

 

ELDERS’ HOMES

An Elders’ Home is an adapted residence where Elders can receive long-term care​

  • 32 rooms plus one palliative care suite​
  • 1 memory care wing​

One in each regional pole:​

  • Chisasibi​
  • Mistissini​
  • Waskaganish​

Construction begins August 2021​

 

TRANSITION HOMES FOR ELDERS

A Transition Home is a residence in which Elders can live when their care needs are too great to live at home, but not enough to require the Elder’s Home (about an hour a day of care).​

Planned transition homes:

  • Waswanipi (9 beds)​
  • 5 other communities

Ashuukin - Waswanipi​

  • 9 bed Transition Home for Elders​
  • Operation manual and governance format 75% done​
  • Building job descriptions​
  • Call for Tender in May 2021​
  • Renovations to begin in Fall 2021

 

MENTAL HEALTH HOMES ​

Adult: Ouje-Bougoumou and Chisasibi

Youth: Nemaska and Wemindji

  • 9 beds each​
  • Short or long-term stays​
  • Example: to reintegrate in the community following a mental health hospitalization at the Douglas​
  • Opening: 2024​

 

HOMES FOR PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

  • For children or adults with high needs, currently living in specialized care homes in the south​
  • Coastal (Eastmain) and Inland (Waswanipi - TBC)​
  • 9 beds each​
  • Construction: Spring 2023​
  • Opening: Spring 2024​
