Learn what it is like to be a midwife, what the program covers and how to apply.
About the program
The MEP will be recruiting three candidates in 2023.
Five people will be accepted on a waiting list, and will be invited to join the program as positions open up.
Most of the learning is hands-on, starting day one. Attending at least 100 births with midwife mentors, trainees will learn a blend of modern, medical skills and traditional and cultural skills. The program builds on the competency framework established by the National Aboriginal Council of Midwives.
The program will be based in Chisasibi for now and is expected to take 4 to 6 years to complete. Trainees will be expected to relocate to the community in order to fully participate in the program.
