TEMPORARY MEASURE - AUTONOMOUS DENTAL CARE OUTSIDE REGION 18
Due to dental resources being limited, as of June 1st, 2025, and until decided otherwise, a temporary measure lets eligible clients who cannot access dental care in their home community to autonomously travel outside Region 18 for treatment. Eligible clients may receive reimbursement according to Cree NIHB rates for travel, lodging, and service fees.
Conditions
- Patients must be JBNQA beneficiaries.
- Children 9 years and under must have a valid RAMQ card.
- Patients who do not show up for their appointment will not be reimbursed.
- Cree NIHB will authorize ONLY 4 travels and lodging outside of Region 18 per family residing at the same address per year, between April 1st and March 31st.
Process
The reimbursement follows the rates established by the CBHSSJB Medical Travel Reimbursement Rates.
- Book an appointment in your preferred clinic, in Quebec or Ontario.
- Once your visit is completed, fill your Travel Form and Lodging Form, attach your receipts and send it to 18_TCR_CNIHB@ssss.gouv.qc.ca for reimbursement. If a child 9 years old or less receives the dental care, you must request a receipt and send it with your claims.
- If you had to pay 100% of the fees for dental services received, fill the Services Form and send it to 18TCR.dental.cnihb@ssss.gouv.qc.ca, with dental receipts and a void check. You will be reimbursed according to the Cree NIHB fee guide.
In some cases, the dental clinic may charge you an additional 15–25% for fees not covered by Cree NIHB. This amount must be paid by you and will not be reimbursed. We recommend confirming this with the clinic before booking your appointment.

SERVICES COVERED
- Procedures covered without prior approval include examinations, cleanings, fillings, extractions, and emergency care for pain, swelling or broken teeth.
- For crown work, root canals, dentures, orthodontics, or general anesthesia for children you need prior approval through Cree NIHB.
