SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Person who designs, implements, updates, analyses and assesses activities and provides guidance and counselling services in one or more social programs.

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS

• Offers support to community frontline workers and families of children/youth who are at risk or who have been diagnosed with language, communication, behavioral and developmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder.

• Provide clinical skills instruction and behavior reduction protocols and best practices to those with working with clients.

• Assist with parent and caregiver training in line with client’s individualized treatment and behavior reduction protocols and to promote skill acquisition in the following areas: communication, social, daily living, independence, personal hygiene, and fine and gross motor.

Requirements

Education:
• Must have the required university degree in social work;
• If using the reserved title, the person must provide her/his employer with annual proof that she/he is a member of the Ordre professionnel des travailleurs sociaux du Québec.

Experience:
• Two (2) years of pertinent experience.

Knowledge and Abilities:
• Knowledge and experience with autism and behavioural techniques;
• Knowledge of appropriate ways to handle intervention with challenging behavior;
• Good understanding of psychosocial issues;
• Understanding of First Nations culture and issues that affect individuals, families and communities is an asset;
• Ability to apply Eeyou/Eenou culture, values, traditions and teachings into programs and services where possible;
• Ability in the identification and analysis of the clientele needs;
• Ability to communicate theoretical and practical knowledge, as applied to coaching and training;
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• Autonomous, discrete and empathetic;
Team work capabilities.

LANGUAGE
• Fluent in English;
• Fluency in Cree or French is an asset;

Life in Eeyou Istchee

We are the Cree of Eeyou Istchee. We call ourselves Eeyou and Eenou. Our name means simply “the people”. Clients of the CBHSSJB include the almost 18,000 people residing in the nine Cree communities and scattered throughout the territory at hunting camps, mine sites, hydro-electric installations and logging camps.

The best way to experience the Cree way of life is by participating in community and cultural activities. Most communities have an ice rink, fitness centre and a gymnasium. Several communities, including Chisasibi, have indoor pools. Ask the Community Health Representative or Community Organizer at the clinic about opportunities to participate in Cree cultural activities such as walking out ceremonies. The region offers some of the world’s best fishing, canoeing, hiking and snowmobiling.
