Description:
Through the presentation Eeyou Ituuwin “Cree Knowledge” in Nursing, there will be an explanation of the medicine pouch, and traditional drumming as well as guided discussions. Participants will learn how to respectfully integrate traditional knowledge into their practice and recognize the importance of culturally responsive and trauma-informed care when working in northern and Indigenous communities.

Description:
This hands-on training is designed to equip nurses with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to safely and ethically use restraints, including mechanical, chemical, and environmental restraints (such as the use of a seclusion room). Through real-life scenarios, simulations, and practice with restraint equipment, participants will become familiar with local protocols, learn how to de-escalate aggressive behaviors, and apply interventions that prioritize patient dignity, safety, and legal standards.

Description:
Intervening with clients who present with painful mental health issues often feels overwhelming, resulting in experiencing the uncomfortable feeling of "not doing enough". This workshop aims to enhance the clinician's sense of competency and satisfaction, when engaging in the process of supporting clients who struggle with a variety of mental health issues.

Description:
This training session is designed to enhance nurses’ skills and confidence in conducting comprehensive pediatric assessments across various clinical contexts. Through practical insights and case-based discussions, participants will refine their ability to adapt their approach based on the child’s age, developmental stage, and the care setting. Emphasis will be placed on recognizing subtle clinical cues, distinguishing between normal and abnormal physical findings, and developing the critical thinking. This training aims to empower nurses with practical "clinical pearls" that can be immediately applied in their day-to-day pediatric practice.

A celebration of First Nations women and their communities who are brought together through their love of yoga, healing, and reclamation of ancestral languages and lifeways. Introducing the First Nations Women’s Yoga Initiative (FNWYI) collaborators who share a community wellness strategy that braids cultural and spiritual knowledge systems through a trauma-informed lens.
Description:
This optional evening session consists of an introduction by the film maker Jessica Barudin. Followed by an introduction to the Indigenous Wellness Movie, and Discussion Q&A period. The session will end with an accessible yoga practice by Jessica Barudin. You are encouraged and welcome to bring your own mats.
About Jessica: Jessica is Kwakwa̱ka̱ʼwakw, a member and elected leader of the ‘Namgis First Nation with ties to the Kwagu’ł and Hax̱wa’mis Nations on her mother’s side and Ashkenazi-Jewish on her father’s side. She is a proud mother of two daughters, wife, Sundancer, Indigenous health researcher, educator, yoga teacher, and community wellness practitioner. She has spent over a decade working professionally in Indigenous peoples’ health and education, including roles in community-based research, education, health promotion, Indigenous public health, and trauma healing.
Dr. Jessica Barudin is an Assistant Professor of Indigenous Community Planning in the School of Community and Regional Planning at University of British Columbia. She has a Doctorate in Applied Human Sciences from Concordia University, Master of Applied Science in Physical Therapy from McGill University, and an Undergraduate Degree in Human Kinetics from the University of British Columbia. She believes in a values-driven, relationship-centered approach to community planning. Jessica is especially interested in supporting community-led processes with Indigenous communities that center on language revitalization strategies and holistic approaches to wellness. As a mother, Kwak’wala language learner, and community wellness practitioner, she is dedicated to upholding traditional teachings and values while learning Kwak’wala alongside her two daughters in their home community of Alert Bay.

Description:
This course is designed for nurses working in or aspiring to work in emergency departments, aiming to elevate their proficiency in trauma care through a blend of online modules and in-person sessions. This program is based on the National Emergency Nurses Association (NENA) competency criteria specific to trauma patients. These criteria are available on the NENA website at www.nena.ca. The course focuses on emergency trauma care for adult patients in the emergency department.

Many of the challenges that we experience are based on irrational and unhelpful thought patterns that impact both our feelings and our behavior. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a time-sensitive, structured, and present-oriented form of counselling that focuses on problem solving and teaching individuals how to modify these distorted patterns of thinking. CBT is also one of the most well-known, researched, and practiced forms of therapy available to us. This workshop provides a strong foundational knowledge of the principles and strategies involved in using CBT. Participants will gain an understanding of which populations tend to benefit the most from CBT, and will be equipped with many strategies and tools that can be practically applied in their work.

Description:
This session will be a discreet open discussion format with approximately 10 to 15 hemodialysis (HD), liaison, and pre-HD nurses. Introductory information will be provided and discussion will follow based on different scenarios experienced by participants that commonly occur in the dialysis units and pre-dialysis clinics. This will include exploration of nurses’ feelings and perspectives, such as how they feel when a patient goes against their prescribed regimen, what their thoughts are about why patients do not follow professional advice, how nurses respond and why, and what options are available for support and management.

Description:
There is growing concern about suicidal distress experienced by children aged 13 and under, but to date, scientific knowledge remains very limited. This presentation aims to share the current state of knowledge on suicidal distress in young children, including the onset and course of suicidal ideation, non-suicidal self-injury, national statistics on suicide mortality, and known risk and protective factors.
We will also present current guidelines for assessing, recognizing, and responding to suicidal ideation in children, and highlight key questions that remain unanswered but are important for guiding prevention efforts.

Provide preconception counseling, including advice on lifestyle habits and medications that are safe or should be avoided at the start of pregnancy.
- Understand how life habits (nutrition, sleep, substance use, etc.) impact fertility and early pregnancy.
- Determine the appropriate timing for referrals—within 6 months, 1 year, or sooner—based on patient age, symptoms, or abnormal findings.
- Recognize the common steps involved in infertility investigations, enabling them to answer patients' questions and explain the potential next steps.

This training will guide nurses through the foundational steps of supporting patients who are planning a pregnancy, experiencing delays in conception, or beginning to explore their fertility options.
