This is a chapter from a book called, "Aboriginal History A Reader".
What I have presented here is a brief overview of Cree cosmology and its articulation in one particular ceremony in the context of the history of the Iiyiyu’ch of Whapmagoostui. I have particularly focused on how the shaking tent ceremony was used as a form of communication. Today, the term kusaapihchikin is used by some as a light-hearted metaphor when discussing the computer and, more specifically, the internet. To those unversed in the latest communication technologies, the Internet is as mysterious as the shaking tent ceremony would be to those unfamiliar with Cree cosmology. Each has its own internal expressive logic and technology of communication; therefore, the joking resonates well.
